Care, Technology, and Comfort: How Germany Is Changing Its Attitude Toward Dogs
In Germany, some supermarkets have introduced a smart solution for dog owners—"parking booths" for their pets.
These are climate-controlled, ventilated booths located near the store entrance, where dogs can wait comfortably while their owners shop.
DogSpot, the company behind this innovation, designed the boxes to be safe, hygienic, and comfortable for the animals.
Owners can open and close them via an app or using a special code—so only they have access.
The goal is simple but important:
- to protect animals from heat, cold, or rain;
- to prevent dogs from being left in cars or tied up outside.
According to DW News, the “dog parking lots” maintain an optimal temperature year-round and feature transparent panels so that dogs can see outside and don’t feel stressed.
The initiative reflects Germany’s growing focus on pet-friendly urban planning—a combination of technology, animal welfare, and practical everyday solutions.
